Dairy Farm Assistant – Modern Robotic Dairy Farm
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and motivated person to join our modern and progressive 220-cow flying herd dairy farm. The farm is equipped with four Lely A5 robotic milking units and two Lely robotic manure collectors, with a focus on grazing throughout the summer and calving taking place all year round, with a summer bias.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in agriculture who enjoys working with livestock and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of a modern dairy farm.
Key Responsibilities
- Feeding cows using a JCB telehandler, ensuring feed is delivered accurately and consistently as part of the daily routine.
- Cleaning cubicles, bedding up and scraping yards to maintain clean, comfortable and hygienic conditions for the cows.
- Assisting with the daily care and management of the 220-cow dairy herd.
- Monitoring animal health and welfare, identifying potential issues and reporting concerns promptly.
- Assisting with calving and providing appropriate care for cows and calves.
- Monitoring robotic milking systems and automated manure collectors, reporting any faults or issues.
- Feeding calves and supporting the health and development of youngstock.
- Supporting rotational grazing throughout the summer.
- Carrying out general farm duties and routine maintenance.
- Operating tractors and other farm machinery for daily operations and seasonal tasks.
- Working as part of the team to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the farm.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working with livestock or a genuine interest in dairy farming.
- Experience operating a JCB telehandler, particularly for feeding duties, would be an advantage.
- A good understanding of animal care and welfare, with a willingness to learn.
- Good practical skills and an ability to identify and report equipment issues.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A flexible, proactive and motivated approach to work.
- Tractor driving experience and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
